The
Marion Hy-Vee is a part of Hy-Vee Inc., an employee-owned corporation operating
more than 200 retail stores in seven Midwestern states. Hy-Vee provides career opportunities
for 49,000 employees and generates annual sales in excess of $4.6 billion,
ranking us among the top 15 supermarket chains in the nation.
The name Hy-Vee is synonymous with quality products, low prices and superior
customer service. Our slogan, "A Helpful Smile In Every Aisle,"
expresses the foundation of our corporate philosophy.
Midwest
Tradition
Hy-Vee
was founded in 1930 by Charles Hyde and David Vredenburg, who opened a small
general store in Beaconsfield, Iowa. In 1938 they incorporated as Hyde &
Vredenburg Inc., with 15 stores and 16 stockholders. The current company name,
Hy-Vee is a contraction of our founders' names.
In those early years, company offices were located in Lamoni, Iowa. The company
moved to Chariton, Iowa in 1945 to gain access to rail services, and in 1948
constructed the first office/warehouse complex.

Today, Hy-Vee operates retail locations in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas,
Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota. The company also operates Hy-Vee
Drugstores in Iowa and Nebraska.
